Charleston Dog Park
Small designated dog park. This small, well maintained, fenced and double gated
dog park with two park benches is possibly the only one in West Virginia at this
time. It encompasses one typical- size city lot on a major street downtown.
Hours are from dawn to dusk (no lights). No regular water supply is available
inside the fence at this time, but a neighbor allows use of her outside spigot
to fill the various bowls that are inside the fence and I understand that some
people would like to see a fountain installed. I also understand that some
individuals have occasionally provided small donations to her for this kindness,
and I am quite sure that is appreciated. There are bags and trash containers
provided for clean- up. The rules note that choke chains are not permitted,
though when I noted this (my large Lab mix wears one due to her size and the
fact that she pulls on the leash), I was told that it was not a big deal. I
recommend not wearing the choke chain on this occasion, and will not do so
myself the next time. The surrounding neighborhood isn't the best, but the
facility is spotlessly maintained and has a lot to offer. Another caveat: my
puppy was able to slip out between pickets in the wrought iron- style fence, so
small dogs may require extra vigilance. Otherwise, this location may be
Charleston's best kept secret.
North Charleston Dog Park
Nice park, similar to the park on Washington St. Good sized park run by the
city, same rules as Washington St. park. Slightly smaller than the other park,
but has more grass and less mud. Located next to the North Charleston Community
Center. Location: 7th Avenue. Directions: Mapquest directions to community
center. Located near Patrick Street and the American Legion baseball field.
Hurricane
Hurricane Wave pool City Park
Nice little dog park with several "agility" type play things for dogs to play on
and with. there are a few benches provided as well as a scooper and bags.
Location: Beside the mini golf and the Valley wave pool park. Directions: Rt 60
to hurricane wv turn to the Valley wave pool. located beside the mini golf
there.
Morgantown
Stanley's Spot
This wonderful spot off High Street in Morgantown offers two separate fenced-in
dog parks- one for Big Rover and one for Lil Rover.... beautiful! Recently, a
roofed picnic table was added with the two other tables, along with a couple
metal benches... Many visitors... Often we take our two to find 20-25 dogs
already playing! Location: Off Spruce Street, near the Morgantown Beauty College
